First Offence Assault Charges
If you find yourself facing an assault charge and this is your first offence, the laws relating to your case may be different. As Melbourne lawyers with extensive experience in a number of fields, including assault law, we can advise you of the best way to handle your specific matter and any way in which the laws may differ for your first offence.
Assault and violence offences vary from “Intentionally Causing Serious Injury", "Recklessly Causing Serious Injury", "Intentionally Causing Injury", and "Recklessly Causing Injury" to a plain "Assault". Refer to the list of assault charges below and click on the information icon next to the charge relevant to you.
Some issues in assault cases are;
- What are the events that took place prior to the offending and the circumstances that may have led you to act out of character?
- What actually happened? Assaults occur in heated situations, therefore witnesses memories of the true events are often incorrect.
- In what context did the offending occur, or why did it happen? We work with you to put the offending in a context that makes a Judge understand the events leading up to the offending and how it came about.
- Why did no-one listen to my version of events?
- How do I defend this first offence assault charge?
